What could be better than snuggling into my comfy sofa with my favorite Chardonnay to tune in to season 2 of Bridgerton. So many friends and family told me I ‘had’ to watch Bridgerton and they were correct (as usual). Suffice to say, most of season 2 was watched that very night and I could hardly get through the next day at work because I was so tired, yet excited to get home, to watch the final few episodes.
Of course, our hearts missed the Duke of Hastings but we did become rather enamored by Viscount Anthony Bridgerton. The new season didn't disappoint as we all wished Lady Whistledown was our best friend and admired Eloise’s will to stand up for what she believes.
So why did this amazing series capture our hearts and imagination?
Well, producer Shonda Rhimes, the mastermind behind hits like Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal, adapted Julia Quinn’s best-selling novel, Bridgerton, and Shonda-rhimed it. Fans of the show call it Downton Abbey meets Gossip Girl meets Scandal. Let’s be real, we were all glued to our TVs once we saw Duke Hastings! But we were also obsessed with the show because it brought us back to the time we could all dress up - Bridgerton transported us back to when ladies could wear lavish ball gowns, waltz in opulent ballrooms and have secret steamy romances in the backyard. Bridgerton took us away from the reality of the world and into the fantasy of times gone by.
Of course, the biggest drama of season 2 was the love triangle between Edwina, her sister Kate and Viscount Anthony Bridgerton. The outfits of the Sharma sisters certainly fired my imagination almost as much as the story!
If you’re a bride-to-be, a bridesmaid or a wedding guest who wants to channel your inner Daphne or Eloise Bridgerton, Sharma sister or maybe Penelope Featherington then look no further. We have put together regency-era wedding dress looks that will transport you back to the Brigerton era. We have discovered dreamy gowns to make you feel like you are in a Bridgerton inspired wedding dress and comfortable wedding shoes to match. Armed with a Bridgerton season 2 wedding dress, these looks are guaranteed to catch the eye of your very own Duke of Hastings (or will it be Viscount Anthony)? But first, a brief lesson in history.
When was the Regency Era?
The Regency Era was a period of time between 1795 to 1837. It is known as a “mini-Renaissance” in Western Europe where fashion , fine art, literature and architecture thrived.
What is a typical Regency Era fashion style?
Women’s fashion in that era was defined by an empire waist, delicate puff sleeves, alluring square and low necklines, looser silhouettes, floral prints, and fine art embellishments.
What accessories work for my Regency Era wedding dress?
Satin or opera gloves, sparkly tiaras and statement-making jewelry such as chokers and pearl drop earrings.
How about Colors?
Color played a huge part in the show with soft burnt sugar pinks, lilacs, pale greens and blues. Then there were splashes of yellow which Lady Whistedown usually wore. So if you are planning a Brigderton Season 2 wedding dress or guest outfit then you can definitely add a pop of color.
So I put together a few ideas so that you can see what is available in Bridgerton style wedding dresses and of course comfortable shoes and accessories to compliment them.
Edwina’s Bridgerton Wedding Dress
Let's start with the most dramatic moment of the season and the Bridgerton wedding dress Edwina chose. Naturally, the gown was demure with delicate embroidery and tiny pearls, plus that square neckline so prevalent in Bridgerton gowns. Fast forward to 2023, we can see this pretty gown from Pronovias also featuring delicate embroidered flowers with glittering pearls. Adding an antique mirrored choker with matching earrings will give an authentic period feel. Queen Elizabeth’s favorite glove supplier was surely Cornelia James where we discovered these lovely opera gloves.
Finish this charming ensemble with our finely embroidered Esther kitten heels with dainty beading and comfortable padding.
Real-Life Princess
Let's bring it right up to 2023 and a real-life Princess also taking inspiration from Bridgerton season 2 wedding dress style. Kate Middleton has given a gorgeous twist while paying homage to the Regency Era with her silky long black opera gloves from Cornelia James. Kate's one-shoulder dress was a customized Alexander McQueen, but we found this equally fabulous one-shoulder piece from Netta Ben Shabu. We also discovered the actual earrings Princess Kate wore. Believe it or not, they were from a Spanish high-street retailer Zara at a very affordable price of around $18.
We think all princesses out there should pair this type of monochrome outfit with a pair of evening heels from our latest collection named Scarlett. These sparkling, strappy kitten heels will be an investment that can be worn day and night for many years.
English Garden Wedding
So much of Bridgerton was filmed in beautiful grounds and gardens and if you have a summer wedding you will love this light Bridgerton style wedding dress. During the Regency Era ladies loved their puffy sleeves and pastel colors, so a very 2023 version might be this delicate gown from Savin London. Wouldn't this pretty dress look amazing with our delightful floral kitten heels? Sierra wedding shoes feature the prettiest floral embroidery and hand-sewn tiny beads along with our normal sumptuous padding. Ideal for wandering through a picture-perfect English garden.
Kate Sharma Style Wedding Guest
If you are anything like me, you perhaps admired Kate Sharma, as she was one strong-willed woman, in times when ladies were expected to be seen and not heard. Kate's color palette was stronger and her dresses more structured than the more demure Edwina. If you choose this fantastic gown which exudes style and drama, from Sachin and Babi, you certainly won't go unnoticed! Add some simple jewelry such as a crystal gold pendant necklace. Complete this look with luxurious Teagan, our gold & crystal rope heels and you will be guaranteed to turn heads!
Daphne Inspired Bridesmaid Dress
Why stop at a Bridgerton-themed wedding dress? Go all out and have Daphne as your bridesmaid! There is no doubt that Daphne adored blue and in particular a dusky soft blue. Furthermore, she did have a penchant for a cape, so what could be more fitting for your Daphne-inspired bridesmaids, than this delightful ensemble from Monique Lhuillier. A simple blue strapless dress is totally transformed with this sheer chiffon floor-length cape. Complete this look with our vintage-inspired Annalise Blue hand-embroidered and beaded kitten heels and your bridesmaids will waltz the night away in comfort.
Bridgerton Mother of the Bride Outfit
Lady Violet Bridgerton. Daphne’s mom is always elegant and classy and a little subdued. If that describes your mom, then she may like to emulate Lady Bridgerton’s style with this classy coat dress from Badgley Mischka. This sumptuous, pleated taffeta gown ties at the waist and would be divine with our Ariel bridal shoes. These sparkly, black, sequined flats would ensure your mom was classy and comfortable.
I don't know about you but we can't wait to see what inspires us from the upcoming Season 3. So, if you are dreaming of a Bridgerton inspired wedding and need a little help on outfit selection you can send our stylists a DM and they will whisper in Lady Whistledown’s ear to get all the goss on the latest Bridgerton fashion.
